Today is Veterans Day, a day set aside to remember and pay respects to our military veterans.  Also known around the world as Remembrance Day and Armistice Day, it marks the signing of the Armistice which ended World War I (the War to End All Wars?) as major hostilities formally ended on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918.

Six Inch Killaz - The King Cheetah

OK. I'm sucking these days at posting regularly. My apologies. But for those who enjoy edgy punk-laced slam rock goodness, I think this one should make the wait worth it. Thanks to my friend Gavin Carroll for this turn on.

Originating in London, UK in the mid-90s, but currently based out of Los Angeles, California, The King Cheetah is a breath stealing power rock trio consisting of founders Robert Paul Mune on guitar and vocals and Simon Hancock on drums and newest member Ray Pillar on bass.

Indie-Music.com describes them as “a gritty, dirty Brit sound; imagine standing on stage in a pile of broken beer bottles two feet thick, trying to sing as a leather sofa burns in front of the stage. That is the sound of The King Cheetah.” I agree.

OK. I'm getting excited about this. Our next Underground Gypsy Cabaret is coming up in just a few weeks. That by itself is very exciting as it is always an incredibly fun time, but this go around with it we have the pleasure of J.P. Whipple gracing our stage with his unique vagabond blues. I have been a fan of his for quite some time and am thrilled beyond words to have the opportunity to share a stage with him for a night. If fact, I think the term "giddy" is more than fitting.

Time Jesum Transeuntum Et Non Riverentum - Nick Cave and the Dirty Three

Mesmerizing. Hypnotizing. Haunting. And oh, so beautiful! This is a hidden track on a compilation album of songs inspired by the much loved Fox series, "The X Files". The Latin title translates to the phrase, "Dread the Passage of Jesus, For He Will Not Return." The music for this song is actually a revisitation (yes,I made that word up) of "Better Go Home Now" by The Dirty Three with an entrancingly seductive spoken word by Nick Cave.

Saint Judas - Mark Growden

So, there I stood, up to my elbows (quite literally) in sudsy dishwater cleaning the dinner dishes and listening to Pandora on my cell phone when suddenly I hear "Saint Judas!" singing out across the kitchen. I dropped the sponge and the steak knife I was washing, dried my hands on the towel tossed over my shoulder, and danced across the kitchen to find out what this wonderful song was and who was singing it. Instant love.
